GEO agency in Dubai: what UAE brands should ask first

Short answer: Before you hire a GEO agency in Dubai, ask how they will test whether ChatGPT names you today, in which languages, and which sources they will try to change. A good agency shows you a baseline from real buyer questions before it quotes, and explains how it will measure change. Be wary of anyone who promises a top spot in ChatGPT.

Why this matters more in the UAE

GEO (generative engine optimisation) is the work of getting AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity to name your brand when buyers ask for a recommendation.

UAE buyers use these tools more than most. Microsoft's Global AI Diffusion Report puts the UAE first in the world, with just over 73% of its working-age population using generative AI in the second quarter of 2026.

So when a buyer in Dubai asks "who's the best accounting firm for a small business?", the answer they get from ChatGPT matters. The question is who you hire to help you show up in it.

What we see when we ask ChatGPT about the UAE

We run a weekly test called We asked ChatGPT: one buyer question, five fresh chats, logged out. Two of our runs were about the UAE, and they show what a GEO agency here has to work with.

When we asked for the best accounting firm in Dubai for a small business, all six firms ChatGPT named were in the top 10 of one local business blog's list, published four days before we asked. ChatGPT showed that site as a source in all five answers.

When we asked for the best CRM for a real estate brokerage in Dubai, the answers leaned towards CRMs built for the UAE market. 9 of the 14 round-up lists we checked were written by a CRM vendor, agency or implementation partner.

In other words, ChatGPT's UAE answers lean on a small set of local lists, directories and news pages, and on brands that say clearly that they serve the UAE. Any agency you talk to should be able to explain this for your own category.

7 questions to ask a GEO agency in Dubai

1. "Can you show me where we stand today?" A good agency tests real buyer questions before it quotes: asked several times, in fresh chats, logged out, and counted. You should see how often you were named, who was named instead and which sources the answers showed. If they can't show you a baseline, they can't show you progress later.

2. "Which questions will you track, and who chooses them?" The questions should be the ones your buyers really ask, such as "best corporate tax adviser in Dubai for a startup", not phrases chosen because they are easy to win. Ask to approve the list.

3. "Will you test in Arabic as well as English?" This depends on who your buyers are, but the agency should have a view. One study for a Gulf audience asked AI tools 20 questions about London hotels, in English and Arabic, more than 1,400 times in total. The shortlists were 79% similar, but only 28% of the cited sources (outside the AI platforms themselves) were the same in both languages. Same brands, different evidence.

4. "Which sources will you try to change, and how?" In our UAE runs, ChatGPT showed local business blogs, directories such as Clutch and news sites such as Gulf News as sources. Ask which sources shape the answer in your category and what the agency will do about each one. A vague "we'll build authority" is not an answer.

5. "Will any of it be paid placement, and will it be labelled?" Some lists and directories take fees. On the Clutch page in our accounting run, Clutch says it may earn a fee for some placements. Paid placement isn't always wrong, but you should know which parts of a plan are paid, how much they cost and whether readers will see a label.

6. "What will you change on our own website?" The brands ChatGPT named in our UAE runs had pages that said plainly who they serve and where. Ask what the agency will change on your site, such as service pages that name the UAE or Dubai, the buyers you serve and your prices, and who writes it.

7. "How will you report, and what happens if nothing moves?" Ask for the same questions, asked the same way, every month, with the counts side by side. Ask what they will try next if your numbers don't change after three months, and what the notice period is.

Red flags

  • "We guarantee you'll be number one in ChatGPT." No one controls what ChatGPT says, and its answers change from one chat to the next. In our runs, some brands came up in five of five asks while others came up once.
  • A single ranking position as the main measure. Order moves around between chats. How often you are named across several asks is a steadier number.
  • No baseline, or a baseline from one logged-in chat. A logged-in chat can be shaped by your own history. Ask how they test.
  • Mass-produced articles on sites nobody reads. Ask to see examples of where their content has been placed.
  • Long lock-in contracts before any results. A short first term with clear measures is fairer to both sides.

What a good first month looks like

A useful first month usually covers three things: a baseline across your main buyer questions, a list of the sources that shape those answers, and a short plan for your own site and the outside sources most worth changing. You should be able to read it in 20 minutes and know what will happen next.

FAQ

What does a GEO agency do? It works to get AI assistants such as ChatGPT to name your brand when buyers ask for a recommendation. That usually means testing buyer questions, improving your own pages and working on the outside sources AI answers lean on.

Is GEO different from SEO? They overlap. SEO is about ranking in search results. GEO is about being named in AI answers, which often draw on the same web pages but in a different way, such as round-up lists and directories.

Should I test in Arabic if my buyers search in English? Test in the language your buyers use. If you sell to both Arabic and English speakers, test both, because the sources behind the answers can be very different.

How long before ChatGPT starts naming us? No one can promise a date. Track the same questions every month and judge an agency on whether the counts move and whether it explains why.
